If you've never had a Vietnamese iced coffee, you're in for a treat. And if you have had one and immediately became obsessed — yeah, we get it. There's a reason it's one of the most talked-about coffee drinks in the world right now, and it's been a staple in Vietnamese culture for over a century.
What Is Vietnamese Coffee?
Vietnamese coffee (cà phê) is made using a small metal drip filter called a phin. Hot water is poured slowly over finely ground, dark-roast coffee — typically a Robusta blend — and it drips directly into a glass. The result is an intensely rich, bold, slightly chocolatey brew that's more concentrated than your average drip coffee.
The most iconic version? Cà phê sữa đá — Vietnamese iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The condensed milk sits at the bottom, the hot coffee drips in on top, and then the whole thing gets poured over ice. Bold, sweet, creamy, cold — perfectly balanced.
Why Robusta Instead of Arabica?
Most specialty coffee in the US uses Arabica beans, which are smoother and more nuanced. Vietnamese coffee traditionally uses Robusta, which has nearly twice the caffeine, a fuller body, and a slightly earthier flavor profile. That intensity is exactly what makes it work so well with condensed milk. At Sip Munch Cafe, we use a traditional Vietnamese roast that honors this flavor while staying approachable for first-timers.
Our Vietnamese Coffee Menu
We don't just do one Vietnamese coffee — we do seven, each with its own personality:
Pandan Coffee — Vietnamese coffee with a hint of pandan, a fragrant Southeast Asian leaf with a subtly sweet, vanilla-like flavor. Unique and addictive.
Salted Coffee — A creamy, salted foam floats on top. The salt cuts through the sweetness in the most satisfying way.
Creme Brulee Coffee — Rich caramel notes inspired by the classic French dessert. For the sweet tooth in the room.
Ube Coffee — Purple yam meets Vietnamese coffee. Earthy, slightly sweet, and stunning to look at.
Coconut Coffee (Blended) — Frozen, blended, coconut-forward. More dessert than drink, honestly.
Sesame Coffee — Toasty sesame flavor layered into your coffee. Unexpected and genuinely delicious.
Bạc xỉu (Foam Included) — Milk-forward and milder. Perfect if you want the flavor without the full caffeine punch.
